Scenic Trail Planned As Ambitious Restoration Continues

The Blue Green Connector will be a 3.5-mile system of trails designed to reconnect our community with nature along the restored Little Conestoga Creek. This ADA-accessible trail will be ideal for any form of non-motorized travel, connecting local neighborhoods with recreation, education and business opportunities.

Journey through 24 acres of wildlife habitats, wetlands and restored floodplains. Walk the trail and discover the history and science of clean water, experience an outdoor learning lab, check out local artist installations, and relax in nature while surrounded by native plants and wildlife!

Please note: The trail will be installed in phases between 2025 and 2028.

Trailheads

The trail system will include three main trailheads.  From north to south they are:

Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health Trailhead 

Construction Expected 2025

Located on the Penn Medicine/LGH Suburban Pavilion Campus, at the intersection of Good Drive and West Roseville Road. From here, the trail will pass restoration at Trillium Place and head north across Harrisburg Pike. It will continue past Woodcrest Villa and intersect with Park City Center at the Landis Mill Covered Bridge on Shreiner Station Road.

Noel Dorwart Park Trailhead

Construction Expected 2025-2026

This existing trailhead at Noel Dorwart Park on Good Drive will be expanded with parking, new native plantings, a pavilion, education stations, and a natural playground. The trail will be upgraded to be ADA accessible and intersect with the Little Conestoga Creek near the Norfolk Southern Railroad trestle. It will connect with the lands of Franklin & Marshall to the south and The Crossings and Longs Park to the north. 

Marietta Avenue / Lancaster Township Trailhead: 

Construction Expected 2027

Located at the intersection of Marrietta Avenue and River Drive, this trailhead will anchor the southern portion of the trail.

Trail Amenities

What sets the Blue Green Connector apart is a vision for trail experiences that encourage connection and learning. This will be an inspirational space for those looking to connect with nature, relax, recreate, or travel to local destinations.

The Blue Green Connector will be an outdoor learning lab with experiential stops for discovery along the trail. Visitors of all ages will be able to deepen their understanding of our local environment, its history, and ways you can get involved.

Interpretive signage and wayfinding maps will help users navigate the trail system and share important information. The trail will feature art installations that celebrate nature.

Expanded parking at trailheads will make it convenient to hop on the trail for a hike or bike ride. If you’re seeking quiet, there will be many spaces for activities such as birdwatching and peaceful meditation. Pavilions, benches, and outdoor learning spaces will support small group gathering and relaxation.
